The Reproduction of the Boa Constrictor
Reproduction
This species becomes sexually mature at 2-3 years of age. Mating only happens once a year but there is no particular mating season. The female is viviparous, meaning that babies hatches and develop in the mother's body.
Unlike its close relative the Python, Boa Constrictors give birth to live fully form young Boas, measuring 43cm to 53 cm in length. The entire birth process usually takes up to 4 months.
Boa Constrictors usually make 20 to 60 young Boas a season. After birth, the young begin to feed within a week or two, resulting in rapid growth.
